My Class Closure/ My School Closure Social Stories

This listing is for two Social Stories, created for children who may experience a school or class closure as a result of a classmate contracting the Coronavirus. The social stories are created on a page by page basis so you can include or exclude pages relevant to you.

I have created two social stories for this resource pack – one focuses on the class being closed and the other on school being closed.

Each stories contains multiple page options so you can include or exclude story lines as relevant to you.

I have included a empty box on two separate pages per social story for parents or teachers to fill in when exactly/for how long school will be closes for and when will the child return to school.

Social Stories™ are a method of communication between a student with autism and the professional/parent. They are used as a means of clearly communicating information about a context, skill or concept in a way that is meaningful to someone with autism. This creates clarity and predictability for the student and can subsequently reduce anxiety and improve the ability to cope in different contexts and experiences.

Sit down with your child at a time they are relaxed and engaged. Read through the story and encourage any questions they may have. For students who may not be able to read, read the story for them and use the visual icons to help your child/student understand what their daily routine will be like once they start going to school.

I would recommend reading this story in advance of school having to close so that if transpires in the future that the class or school has to close, your students will be prepared. Ensure you keep your tone calm, relaxed and open to hearing/understanding any worries or anxieties your student/child may have. Use each page as a jumping off point for other worries your child may be feeling.
